Education at GDGS, Hyderabad is an integrated process with a flexible curriculum that takes into account the heterogeneity of the students and their learning capabilities .The Pre- Primary wing of GDGS, Hyderabad caters to early childhood learning where the students imbibe social skills, develop verbal ability and enjoys creating things through art& craft which is an integrated part of the curriculum. The curriculum is open ended and emphasis is laid on acquiring linguistic and logical skills by adopting innovative methods to stimulate interest among the students.

Primary Wing

Primary Wing of a school is the second stepping ladder. The curriculum at primary level is a balance of curricular subjects and co curricular activities aiming at all round development of a child’s personality. The child is at concrete operational stage where they can think logically. Students are taught through hi-tech and fervent efforts are put forward to cater to the need of every student. The academic subjects like Mathematics and Science which require reasoning and logic are the focal point at this level. Communication skills remain at the centre stage.

To teach regularity and punctuality, Primary wing stresses on 100% attendance. The determination and their undying spirit is what make our young Goenkans successful in whatever endeavour they undertake.

PEDAGOGY & CURRICULUM

Pedagogy

Curriculum describes the “What”, that is to be taught and pedagogy describes the “How”, that is how the educator can assist the child to learn. The pedagogical practices adopted at GDGS, Hyderabad is a set of instructional techniques and strategies which enable learning to take place and provide opportunities for the acquisition of varied skills.

Language and Literacy Development

GDGS, Hyderabad adopts a highly acclaimed phonics based approach for the language literacy which enhances the linguistic and creative skills of the little ones. Recognition of letters, vocabulary enhancement and technique of blending the letters, formulating and eventually reading simple sentences is being followed.

Cognitive Development

Cognitive reasoning is built through hands-on learning. Children are equipped progressively through games and puzzles which encourage exploratory learning and spark curiosity in mathematical thinking. There are many articles of Montessori equipment in the Intellectual Development Lab. ‘Beads, shapes, models and other teaching aids, help the students to enhance their logical thinking. Thematic puzzles also develop the hand-eye coordination of the students.

Gross Motor Development

Organized and free play are regular features at GDGS, Hyderabad. It involves – running, hopping, playing, riding a bicycle, fun races and many more. These activities hone the gross motor skills of the students.

Creative Development

Creative art & craft activities play an integral role in the school curriculum. The Pre-scholars enjoy exploring ideas and explaining this world through songs, rhymes and role plays.

Socio Emotional Development

The Early Childhood years are not only a time for taking first steps or for saying first word. They are also when through their relationship with others they start developing their emotional skills such as recognizing, expressing and managing a wide range of feelings .The staff here shares a strong bond of love and affection with the little ones.

Focus

An integrated curricular approach focusing on activity based learning, enhancing listening and speaking skills, developing healthy mind and body to achieve holistic development is followed. The curricular subjects are transacted through project based and enquiry based making learning joyful.

Co-Curricular Activities

Primary wing students are exposed to various activities. A plethora of activities like various sports, Yoga, Dance, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Art and Craft, Sculpture, Origami, Taekwondo, Chess and Table Tennis are facilitated to them. Activities like Gymnastics, Skating, Lawn Tennis and physical training are taken care of by special coaches and trainers. A lot of inter house competitions are also held in the school. The School Children also participate in Various Inter – School Competitions and so far, have done exceedingly well.

Middle School Curriculum

Classes VI – VIII

Curriculum includes the instructional practices along with the learning experiences of students. The middle school follows a uniform assessment system as per CBSE. In order to infuse a strong education base and prepare students to step into higher classes, the uniform assessment plays an important role. Students are assessed in two terms through pen and paper tests as well as subject enrichment activities.
The curriculum is broadly based on Scholastic and Co – scholastic domain, which provides a platform for students to think intensively and critically, while acquiring knowledge.
The aim is to provide in-depth knowledge of all the concepts. An extensive use of technology supplements classroom teaching, thereby making it interactive and thus enhancing comprehension. We have implemented smart class technology as our teaching methodology.
Homework given to students is a stimulating revision exercise, generally in the form of worksheets. Activity based learning in all subjects is emphasized.

Holistic Development….Beyond Books!!

A lot of stress is laid on spoken English and public speaking skills with emphasis on good pronunciation and diction, coupled with excellent reading and writing skills.
Educational trips and excursions are organized on a regular basis to make learning fun, interesting and meaningful through exploration and adventure.
Co- curricular activities form an integral part of the curriculum which hones the abilities of the student through a plethora of options to choose from and showcase their talents.
Health and Physical education is given equal importance to maintain a healthy balance between education and exercise. It also instills values like teamwork and discipline in students.
Creativity is given a lot of emphasis. Students participate in hands on experiments and activities and create working models based on their own visions and ideas. The curriculum is designed to bring out the best and ensure holistic development of a student.
Life skills are essentially those abilities that help promote overall well being and competence in young ones as they face the realities of life. Life skills include psycho-social competencies and interpersonal skills that help these young minds make decisions, solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, empathize with others and learn to manage their lives in a healthy and productive manner. Special sessions are held from time to time where students also learn the value of service and of developing enduring friendships and become more conscious of individual and social responsibilities towards family , community and country .
